Nightmare competed at the June 9-11, 2000 BattleBots in San Francisco! |
Nightmare had a few upgrades ready in store for San Francisco BattleBots 2000, but due to a really bad driving mistake on my part, ended up getting knocked out in his first match against Mauler. Single elimination for the SF2000 tournament meant Nightmare was out until next time.
If you missed the show on Comedy Central, the Mauler vs. Nightmare match was during the first BattleBots episode on August 30, 2000. The match itself lasted all of 40 seconds, where basically Nightmare got smacked silly by a seriously-upgraded Mauler. In a split second, Mauler's spinning chisels had impacted one of Nightmare's drive wheels, shattering the hub bushing (1/2" solid steel!) which caused the wheel to fall completely off. Agh, how humiliating! The match was pretty much over at that point, but Mauler hit Nightmare a couple more times just to show him who's boss, it was these hits that did the most damage, destroying a motor, mount, and peeling away the frame and breaking several welds. Total damage to Nightmare from this match is about $1200. Yuck. Oh well, that's definitely the risk you take putting your robot in the arena. Now it gives me another chance to upgrade and modify!

What's Next for Nightmare?
Well, I really didn't get a chance to show off the new upgrades at this show, so I thought about leaving everything the same and going into the next competition with just the repairs, but I just couldn't help myself, and Nightmare went back in the shop and had some more major upgrades!
