Backlash 2000

Video Clips of Backlash's first weapon test

I took Backlash out under a local closed-off and deserted highway underpass to test him out at a safe distance. Where I wouldn't be in danger of flying shrapnel.

First, I wanted to try hitting something softer than metal, something that would break, so I found a plastic planter that needed some rearranging. It definitely didn't put up much of a fight.

Next, I had brought part of the armor that I had used in Hercules 97, this piece of aluminum and steel weighs about 20 pounds and would provide a good test of what I could do with a metal opponent. This hit sent the 20 lb armor piece flying through the air, flipping about 8 times and landing 15 feet away. Not bad... let's try that again...

That looked so cool, I had to try it again. This time, when Backlash hits his target, he sends it flying almost 20 feet, tearing off a couple bolts and sending a steel plate in another direction. Then he goes off to give it some more loving, but I had to stop when I realized I was aiming Backlash right in my direction... yikes.

This last hit on Hercules' old armor broke the welds and tore the entire thing in half and flying. I went after the piece one last time, when Backlash actually ripped off a 1 pound piece of aluminum (see picture below), sending it flying skyward so fast that it BOUNCED off the concrete underpass that was some 30 feet high! Good thing they have a ceiling on the BattleBots arena!

Here's what was left of the aluminum target I let Backlash chew on: a 20 pound part of my 1997 robot's armor (Hercules) all the welds had broken loose, and the entire case got bent out of shape and gashed open from the impacts from Backlash's teeth. I forgot to take a 'before' picture, but it was still in good shape and had flat edges before Backlash got to it.
This is the 1 pound piece of aluminum armor that Backlash ripped off his 'toy'- Hercules' old armor. This piece actually bounced off the concrete of the underpass I was practicing under! That's a good 30 feet high!
