The following short article appeared in the June 8, 2000 San Francisco Chronicle:
MECHANICAL ANIMALS
Maher's old stomping grounds, Comedy Central, shows up for its own taping this weekend. Maher might be nasty, but he'd be no match for the stars of ``Battlebots: San Francisco 2000,'' a demolition derby of remote-control robots.
Comedy Central, you ask? Ever seen one of these events? When a robot equipped with a band saw slices into an opponent and the sparks start flying, the only logical reaction is to laugh maniacally. This year's contestants include names like Biohazard, Killerhurtz and Malicious Mischief. Sounds like OzzFest.
``Battlebots: San Francisco 2000,'' 1 and 6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday at the Festival Pavilion, Fort Mason Center, San Francisco. Tickets are $8.50-12.50. Call (510) 601-8932 or go to www.battlebots.com. ..
