Here is the full scoop on how Backlash did for each fight at San Francisco 2002 BattleBots:
Fight 1: vs. Burning Metal
Backlash's first fight was against Burning Metal, a bot full of NPC motors and two wedge arms in the back, and a slow spinning bar on the front.
Backlash charged out to Burning Metal right away, disc spinning full speed by the time they met about halfway across the arena. Blacklash slammed into Burning Metal, tossing him upside-down instantly, but Backlash continued moving into his prey, tossing him again, rightside up. The impacts dislodged Burning Metal's spinning bar in the process.
Burning Metal feebly tried to escape by the killsaws, but Backlash relentlessly smashed his opponent again, and Burning Metal stopped moving. Backlash spun down his weapon and pushed Burning Metal onto the Killsaws, with bits of Lexan flying. Backlash takes a quick victory spin, and then spins up the weapon again, tearing off one of Burning Metal's wedge arms, tossing it into the ceiling of the BattleBox to the delight of the audience.
Backlash wins by KO.
Total time: 51 seconds
Fight 2: vs. Toe Crusher
Backlash's next fight was against Christian Carlberg's bot, Toe-Crusher. These two bots had met before, back in Season 2.0, where Backlash won by a lucky KO.
Toe Crusher is a quick and manouverable bot, and Christian is a great driver.
Backlash, however, with his new drive motors and too-much gear reduction, was considerably slower than previous incarnations, and was not nearly as quick as the agile Toe Crusher, who zipped around the killsaws and zoomed in occassionally to push Backlash around.
Toe Crusher played a waiting game, staying away from Backlash's spinning disc much of the time to sway the judges his way for Strategy points. Backlash did get in a pop or two on Toe Crusher, but it wasn't enough.
Toe Crusher wins by Judge Decision 28-17
There were no rumbles this year. (Blame it on Nightmare), so no Rumble report this time, sorry.
That's it for Backlash in Season 5.0!
