Backlash competed at the February 2003 Steel Conflict! |
Not much changed on backlash for SC2, I switched out the geardown for his drive wheels because he was far too slow, made some minor electrical upgrades, and added two new machined teeth- my new 'Bigfoot' design! (not pictured here)
Here is the full scoop on how Backlash did for each fight at Steel Conflict 2:
Fight 1: vs. The Big B
Backlash's first fight was against The Big B.
Not much to say about this one- it basically sucked. I knew the Big B would have much better pushing power and would be way too fast for Backlash, and it didn't last long....
The Big B basically drove right into Backlash and scooped him into the Drop Zone pit. Hey, at least it's double-elimination this time! Backlash drops into the loser's bracket....
Big B wins by KO
Fight 2: vs. YU812
Backlash's next fight was against Team Whyachi's vicious little spinner, YU812.
I thought this would be a repeat of what happened to Backlash when he last fought YU812 at the Innagural Robot Club & Grille event, when YU812 ripped Backlash's front arm and wheel off and ripped a huge gash out of the back wedge, but something must have been wrong with YU812's rotor, and he didn't get it spinning.
Backlash slammed YU812 with a couple of good hits, gashing up his armor, before shoving him into the Drop Zone.
Backlash wins by KO
Fight 3: vs. ReticBot
The next fght was against the boxy, but very solid, Retic Bot.
Backlash charged across to meet Retic Bot in the middle of the arena, slamming Retic hard enough to stand up on it's end.
Backlash came back around to line up another shot, but the traction was terrible, and ended up hitting the side of the arena first. By the time Backlash was able to get back around to knock Retic Bot over, the referee had counted it out.
Backlash wins by KO
Fight 4: vs. Mini Ginsu
The next fight was one I had awaited for a long time. After all these years, I finally got a chance to fight against a Team La Machine robot! Mini Ginsu, built by Trey Roski, was a late entry into this competition, but that didn't stop him from beating his first few opponents before being defeated by Wedge of Doom...
Mini Ginsu and Backlash charged and clashed in the middle of the arena. The resulting impact was hard enough to toss Ginsu into the air and upside down, but was also hard enough to snap Backlash's weapon shaft! Weaponless, the only thing left to do was push.
With MIni Ginsu using sawblades as wheels, he didn't have much traction, and even thought Backlash was having traction trouble of his own, he was still able to push Mini Ginsu into the Drop Zone.
Backlash wins by KO
Fight 5: vs. Agsma
Agsma was Backlash's next opponent. This simple, yet solid robot sports two long wedge arms for weapon.
Backlash and Agsma clashed in the center of the arena, and both bots went flying. Unfortunately, after the impact, Backlash stopped moving, and Agsma simply pushed the lifeless Backlash into the Drop Zone.
I later traced the problem to a faulty main board on my IFI Isaac 16 system that was getting worse with the continued shocks each battle. Had I realized that was the problem during the fight, I could have hit the 'robot reset' button on my controller and come back to life. Oh well, live and learn...
Agsma wins by KO
Fight 6: 60 Pound Rumble
This rumble was mostly just for fun, no prize or anything. We had about 5 total robots, almost all of which ended up in one or the other Drop Zone. Backlash, however managed to stay alive the whole time, and lasted the duration against the robot MisDirection, and by a resounding crowd decision, Backlash won this rumble!
Steel Conflict was a BLAST!
That's it for Backlash at Steel Conflict 2!
