Dustin Motor & Dustin Motor 2

We start with the powerful DeWalt 24V Hammerdrill motor and it's well-engineered transmission, then modify and rebuild it for robotic combat.

Specifications:

3 Pounds, 6 oz.
7.88" L x 4.5" W x 3.00" H (with mounts)
Can be run at 24 or 36V

Battle-Ready Mounts for DeWALT

Custom-fit mounts just for the DeWALT 24V HammerDrill motor.

5/8" Shaft Adapted to fit the Dustin 2

Stop breaking those tiny 1/2" shafts! Until now, the shaft has been the weak point for these fantastic DeWalt motors. We've re-engineered how shafts fit to this motor, reducing the possibility of the previously-common result of sheared shafts at the motor.

These 5/8", 1018 steel shafts come standard with a 3/16" keyway the full length (not shown in the photo). You may customize the shaft to be longer than you need for only $1 per extra inch over the standard 6".

The end of the shaft has been machined to mate perfectly inside the new gearbox of the Dustin 2 motor. (If you are not using the Dustin 2 motor, you will need to convert your existing DeWALT with the Gear Box conversion kit)

(keyway not shown on photo, but will be on the shafts you receive). Also note that shaft pictured is 10" long.

Note when ordering your 5/8" shaft, the first 1.25" of the shaft will be inside the front of the Dustin 2 motor, so you might want to order a slightly longer shaft than usual.

Gear Box conversion kit for 5/8" shaft

This is what makes a Dustin 1 into a Dustin 2, or converts your 24V DeWalt transmission to accept a bigger 5/8" shaft. NOTE: You do not need this conversion kit if you buy the complete Dustin 2 motor, this kit is sold separately for those who wish to convert their old Dustin 1 or their own customized DeWALT motors to accept the 5/8" shaft.

Complete kit includes the following:

- 5/8" Roller Bearing, press-fit into a custom bearing mount
- Drive output module, pre-drilled for the 3.5mm pins*
- Front flange holder
- Instruction sheet

*The five pins can be easily transferred from the old motor using a simple punch tool. Full instructions on installing this kit will be included.

High Torque Steel Gear Replacement / Retaining ring

This item should not be used in conjunction with the High Speed Gear Coupler.  Sold as part of the High Torque Dustin Motor package, or by itself.

This can be used on either the Dustin 1 or 2 motor, or on your customized DeWALT 24V Hammerdrill transmission .

- Enhances the stock DeWALT gearbox by replacing its weakest component, the plastic ring gear with a STEEL one
- For high torque operation
- Retaining ring eliminates the need for an external clip

High Speed Gear Coupler

This item should not be used in conjunction with the High Torque Steel Gear.  Sold as part of the High Speed Dustin Motor package, or by itself.

This can be used on either the Dustin 1 or 2 motor, or on your customized DeWALT 24V Hammerdrill transmission .

- Eliminates the need for the stock plastic gear
- Keeps the motor in high speed gear without need for an external clip
- Works by locking two layers of gear reduction together
- Same reduction ratio as stock "high speed/low torque" gear

High Temp Brush Housing with Adjustable Timing

Tested by several teams at 36 volts, eliminating problems with the stock unit, which melts at the higher voltage

This can be used on either the Dustin 1 or 2 motor, or on your customized DeWALT 24V Hammerdrill motor.

* Adjustable timing for neutral, or 11 degrees "oppositely advanced" on each side of your robot,  for more forward driving power.  (Advanced timing diminishes reverse power slightly, but the setting is mild.)
* Better airflow than the stock unit
* Made from electrical grade fiberglass, rated for 400°F
