Sabertooth 2X12 R/C is a dual motor driver specifically optimized for use in radio controlled vehicles. It is suitable for medium powered robots, cars and boats. The Sabertooth 2x12 RC replaces our 2x10 RC controller.

Out of the box, it can supply two DC brushed motors with up to 12A each. Peak currents of 25A are achievable for a few seconds. Overcurrent and thermal protection means you'll never have to worry about killing the driver with accidental stalls or by hooking up too big a motor.

This special R/C edition of our motor driver comes with options for exponential control, autocalibration and built-in mixing. The operating mode is set with the onboard DIP switches so there are no jumpers to lose.

Sabertooth is the first synchronous regenerative motor driver in its class. The regenerative topology means that your batteries get recharged whenever you command your robot to slow down or reverse. Sabertooth also allows you to make very fast stops and reverses - giving your vehicle a quick and nimble edge.

Sabertooth has a built in 5V Switching BEC that can provide power to a microcontroller or R/C receiver and a servo or two. The lithium cutoff mode allows Sabertooth to operate safely with lithium ion and lithium polymer battery packs - the highest energy density batteries available.

Sabertooth's transistors are switched at ultrasonic speeds (32kHz) for silent operation.

Overall a good controller bu I have had a few failures.General purpose is fine but I do not recommend for combat.

Good esc for non combat robots

I bought a sabertooth 2X12 about a year ago because of its price. I was really impressed with it running a drill drive 12Lber until I put the robot in the arena and the sabertooth died. I then got another one figuring the first sabertooth dieing was a fluke. I recently ran the 2nd sabertooth in a 6lb multibot. One of the resistors came loose and caused 1/2 of the board to be flaky.(I had the board shock mounted in sponge foam)

I recommend this speed controller for non combat applications because it simply doesn't hold up to the forces experienced in robot combat.

I'm giving it 2.5 stars because they seem to break easily and are not "combat capable" speed controllers.

nice but unreliable

this is a very nice speed control very precise and vertical. but now lets get to the cons this is not a very robust speed controller i've gone through two of these
through the span of a year the first one was user error the second one died after 8
months of use first it got very glitchy then it died all together. other details
i was running the a4wd1 chassie from lynxmotion and running a 14.4 volt li-ion battery. my remote was the hitec laser 4 and my servo contrroller was the ssc-32 from lynxmotion

I used this speed controller in my semi build, to power the servos and drive motor and the motor to lift my dump bed. works great!

Awesome speed controller

I connected it right after I got it, and it works great! It works well with my transmitter and receiver, and its basically everything I wanted. It is a bit on the expensive side though.

Great ESC card

This is and excellant ESC card. I had no problems synchronizing 2 drive motors on a R/C vehicle. Works great! Only problem was that delivery delayed due to back-order from factory, but support from R-M was great.

excellent product

this is a really great easy to use speed controller. Plugged right in and worked exactly as expected the first time :-) Be aware however, the largest guage wire that I could fit in the screw terminals was 14AWG. I would have preferred to use 12AWG but it's too big for this little guy. My Astromech I think is in good shape with this at it's heart :-)

This unit is just perfect for anyone wanting to build a tracked vehicle. It provides nimble response for forward, reverse and steering. Its design allows my tank to "turn on a dime", that is one track going forward and one in reverse. Highly recommended!

I purchased this speed control for a r/c tank project. This is just what I was looking for. The built-in mixing function allows for seamless proportional control of the two motors, making it a very smooth operating model. I did find the turning to be a little too sensitive. Now, the ESC does feature a built-in exponential function, however it seems that this only works for the throttle, not for turning. If you have a programmable radio, this is not a big deal, simply program the exponential rate in your own radio for turning. Overall I give it 5 stars for fabrication quality, easiness of setting up, and overall performance.

This was the perfect speed control for my rc dozer project. I'm using it to control two AME 218 gearmotors driving fairly heavy tracks. I like the super easy setup with the dip switches, and easy wire connections too. High quality construction and the overcurrent shutoff feature ensure that the Sabertooth will last a long time.

Robotic Dolly

I converted a 24V 16amp electric mobility scooter into a camera dolly. Although I plan to upgrade to a 25A controller, this 12A one works absolutely great. It is able to move more than 350 pounds down the track at about 6ft per second with unbelievable precision. I can only imagine what the 25A version can do. Also, with its exponential control and acceleration ramping dip switch selections,very smooth control is achieved. For any equipment designed to move a camera smooth starts and stops are ablolutely necessary. This controller is top of the line. I am working on other robotic parts and will continue to use this controller.
