The USS Missouri (known as "Mighty Mo"), one of the largest and most powerful battleships in the US Navy, went down in history with the signing of the Japanese surrender documents. The Missouri was the last of four battleships of the Iwoa Class that had an ideal combination of fire power and speed and was completed in June 1944. The Missouri was on active war service from the Iwo-Jima landings in February 1945 until the hostilities ended in September 1945 and also during the Korean War. The Japanese surrender documents were signed on board the Missouri on 2nd September 1945.
